Everyone’s talking about 2024 goals. Your boss. Your significant other. Your “frenemy” who’s bragging about their next international getaway.

But if any of your goals involve writing, sheer willpower won’t get you there as much as you might want to think it will. So I’ve put together a list of resources you need to know about. While most of them have a cost, they are very affordable for what you get from them.

If you’re looking for an agent in 2024, here’s a couple resources to know about:

  1. Get Signed by Lucinda Halpern ($17 on Amazon for paperback, audiobook free on Audible with your monthly credit)

One of my big goals for 2024 is to get an agent. I had a Hollywood agent in 2018…and then got dropped in 2021. It sucked.

But with the growth in my ghostwriting career, it’s time for me to get the boost only an agent can bring. (And if you’re looking to traditionally publish your book, you’re going to need their help, too.)

Lucinda Halpern is an accomplished book agent who now runs her own agency and gives amazing advice on LinkedIn about the world of querying agents. (Seriously, go follow her.)

Now her book is coming out in February. But if you’re willing to pre-order, she also offers some exceptional bonuses, like videos with authors like NYT Bestselling author Adam Grant talking about the publishing biz.

  1. The Sh*t No One Tells You About Writing (FREE)

Do yourself a favor and go subscribe to this show. Even if you’re not looking for an agent, the writing advice on here is top-notch, especially for fiction. It’s become my favorite writing podcast to listen to and I’ve yet to listen to an episode I haven’t found useful in some way.

You should also check out their website because you can submit a query letter for them to critique (which they do on the podcast itself) or even sign up for some of their resources like finding beta readers or their various workshops.

(And I promise, they’re not as sweary on the show as the title would have you believe, though Bianca does like dropping the occasional f-bomb.)

If you’re looking to grow your freelance business this year…

  1. So many Freelancer FREEBIES! (FREE)

Shea Karssing, author of Freelance Like a Boss, has become one of my favorite follows this year. And she’s giving away a lot of amazing resources that can give you guidance in setting your rates, finding clients, and keeping that pesky Imposter Syndrome in check.

I’m especially a fan of “The No BS Networking Checklist,” which will help you turn your existing network into a pipeline of clients if you’re still new in your biz.

And certainly last, but not least, some excellent editing and writing resources you need to know about.

  1. Self-Editing for Non-Editors Workshop by pro editor Adina Edelman ($99-$158 depending on which session you sign up for)

Adina (not Diana) is a full-time freelancing book editor whose whole platform is built on the idea of “mining your words for gold.” And she lives up to it, too.

While obviously she advocates for you to hire an editor for your book, self-editing is an important skill for authors because it will save you time and money during the editing process.

  1. Book in Six writing calendar by Jennifer Locke ($47)

I recently got to connect with fellow business book ghostwriter Jennifer over Zoom and she’s the real deal. I LOVE that she created this resource because it means I don’t have to.

Look, not everyone can afford a bestselling book coach or ghostwriter like Jennifer and myself. That’s okay. This is an affordable option designed to help you—with 20 minutes a day—go from an idea to a workable manuscript.

(By the way, I don’t get any kind of kickback for recommending any of these resources above. These are just people and resources I believe in. I hate that I have to even give this disclaimer, but that’s the world we live in.)

  1. And finally, if it doesn’t feel too self-serving, I’m now offering a free 20-minute Q&A discovery call. (FREE)

Over the past year, I’ve done quite a bit of this between Zoom calls, LinkedIn messages, and whatnot, so I decided to make it official. If you want to learn more about book coaching, ghostwriting, or editing, let’s take 20 minutes for you to ask your biggest question. Then you can decide from there what’s right for you.
