What do you get when you combine coffee, writing, and design?

Hint: you can drink out of it for inspiration.

How important is coffee to your daily routine?

I used to be a once-a-year coffee drinker, whereas my wife was a twice-a-day java juicer. Until about a year and a half ago when she got me into iced coffee. Now it’s (almost) a part of my daily grind.

If you’re a wordsmith like I am, you need a jolt of caffeine to get the day going. But what do you do when it’s run out and your eyes start to glaze over from the glare of the screen?

As important as it is to “just write,” sometimes you also need to step away from the words and do another activity. During the pandemic, I’d go walk a loop around part of my neighborhood to remind myself outside still existed. But lately, it’s been dabbling with design.

I’ve always enjoyed design. From my early years where I’d go through reams of paper by drawing out ideas (and singlehandedly contributing to deforestation…sorry, Earth), to playing around on Windows Paintbrush (before it was rebranded as Paint), to using Canva for my business (Pro account, baby). While I’m far from a professional graphic designer, I find something therapeutic in the design process that helps me recuperate and approach a book project with fresh eyes.

Which brings us back to coffee…

Earlier this year, I decided I wanted to combine all three ideas together—writing, coffee, and design. After months of trial and error and dabbling, I’m excited to finally unveil for you all The ForWord Writers Mug Shop on Etsy!

While I’ll certainly be adding more designs in the future, now is the perfect time to share what I’ve been working on for the past six months. Here are some of my personal favorite designs:

So whether you’re a writer, editor, proofreader, ghostwriter, or you know one of these fine wordsmiths, consider this your invitation to grab a mug, fill it up, and pour out some inspiration.
