TL;DR Version:
Yes, the newsletter name has changed. Some of the content in the near future will also. But if you’re obsessed with Storytelling, you’ll fit right in.
#1. The name “ForWord Writers” was never meant to be permanent. True story. I chose the name because I needed to choose something but always intended to rebrand when it made sense. It now makes sense.
#2. Brand consistency. I talk about storytelling far more than I talk about writing. They overlap but they’re not exactly the same. You may not be a writer, but you can still be a storyteller. And I’ll also be launching a companion podcast to the newsletter called “Everything is Storytelling,” so … coming soon.
#3. Because of the Book. “Everything is Storytelling” is a concept straight from my upcoming book Start With Story. It’s a central pillar for the content I create moving forward.
Regular Version:
Changing the name of the newsletter has been in the works for a while now … but before I could pull the trigger, I needed to spend some time with the Muse to ensure I was headed the right direction.
For the most part, the content will be similar but will shift a little bit more to focus on storytelling, not just writing. Why?
Because you can be a storyteller without being a writer. And I’ve also known writers who were good with words, but not particularly great at storytelling.
But if you’re obsessed with storytelling in books, business, life, and lessons … then this is your place.
Now that’s outta the way, 3 strategic reasons for the name change:
#1. The name “ForWord Writers” was never meant to be permanent.
When naming stuff, it’s better to be clear than clever. I messed up on that when I named my business Wordrobe Media, but whatever … I still like it even if it’s not very SEO-friendly.
When I needed to rebrand my newsletter the first time, I was stuck on a name. “ForWord Writers” was just what I came up with at the time, but I always knew it would need to change.
“Everything is Storytelling” is much more on-brand for what I do most: help people find their Inner Storyteller.
#2. Brand consistency.
See above … I talk about Story and Storytelling more than anything else. Even more than I talk about writing, which is pretty much every day.
But I want to help people separate the concepts of writing and storytelling more. When I’m book coaching, I’m really Story coaching more than anything else. Helping people find their core Story, dig into it, and then find the right words to connect it to their audience.
And with the soon-to-be launch of my podcast “Everything is Storytelling,” I wanted to make sure the newsletters had the same name.
(Bonus: the domain was available.)
Once the podcast releases, paid subscribers will get access to episodes a week early as a “thank you.”
#3. The Book.
My upcoming book Start With Story is all about finding your Inner Storyteller. And I actually considered calling both the newsletter and the podcast “Start With Story.”
But “Everything is Storytelling” is a concept I introduce in the book and I realized that I had a lot more to say on the topic. Too much to put in the book. Which gave me the “content pillar” I’d been looking for.
So with the book coming out at the end of October (eek!), I realized now was the perfect time to take the concept off the page and into the world. And by world, I mean the internet.
And while we’re discussing the book, if you want to be a part of the Launch Team, I’m putting together materials. Plus, you’ll get some content before everyone else does. Shoot me a note that you want to learn more at jonathan@wordrobemedia.com.
Until next time, keep telling your story.
