“I just don’t have time to write.”

I used to say this myself. Until I realized something which broke my personal space-time continuum:

It’s not that you I didn’t have time to write. It’s that I wasn’t MAKING time to write.

There’s a difference.

We all make time for whatever we prioritize. And time is the ultimate truth-teller.

Recently I was lamenting that between projects and family responsibilities, I didn’t have time to go running.

Once again, I realized I just wasn’t making time.

My son has three hours of gym practice six days a week. Normally, I use this time to work at the coffee shop just down the street. Instead of working the entire time, I started taking running clothes with me.

After working in the coffee shop for 2-ish hours, I’d change in their bathroom, and then run laps around the Home Depot next to my son’s gym.

People probably think I’m nuts. (They’re not completely wrong.)

Some days I can fit in 30 minutes, some days only 10.

Both are better than zero.

We all have 24 hours each day. But you’re in control of how you use most of that time.
